Technology Behind EcoQuest

The main constituents in nappies and similar products are polyester, polyacrilic acid and polyehylene (all nonbiodegradable, fossil fuel sources), and wood pulp (often chlorine bleached and uncertified)

Ecoquest replaces environmentally unfriendly materials with polylactic acid (biodegradable from renewable resources), biofilm certified for biodegradability and compostibility, fibrous pulp from certified sustainable sources and proprietry formulations.

Nappy construction

Inner Sheet

  • allows urine to flow through

  • Keep liquid away from the baby's skin

  • Retain the structural integrity of the Absorbent Core

  • Usually a porous, hydrophillic material, eg polyester, polypropylene fossile fuel source, non biodegradable.

  • Ecoquest uses 100% PLA non-woven - biodegradable

  • Barrier Leg Cuff

  • Stops leakage

  • Keeps clothing dry

  • Usually a non porous hydrophobic material, polypropylene fossile fuel source, non biodegradable.

  • Ecoquest replaces with a PLA based non-woven material.

  • Distribution Layer

  • Urine distribution

  • Lower absorbency and lower density than Absorbent Core

  • Usually chemically crosslinked cellulose fibres or polypropylene fibre.

  • EcoQuest uses standard non-woven tissue paper.

  • Absorbent Core

  • Soaks up liquid, distributes it across the core and retains it.

  • Composite structure comprising SAP - Superabsorbent Polymer (polyacrylic acid, which can hold approx 60 times its weight in urine) and Cellulose Pulp Fluff, either layered or blended.

  • EcoQuest uses ECF Certified pulp - sustainable cultural process with ISO14000 registration.

  • Outer Sheet

  • Prevents moisture leaking

  • Usually non porous, hydrophobic material eg polyethylene

  • EcoQuest uses felted viscose with a top layer of Biofilm, certified for biodegradability and compatibility, confirming to ISO 14855:1999

  • Other Components

    Tapes, Adhesives, Elastics
